S Y Lee’s mechanical and electrical design introduced a 75-ton central chiller and a central boiler for hydronic heating. The distribution design emphasized low-noise equipment and acoustically treated fan-coil units, carefully positioned to minimize new registers and access or maintenance platforms.
The project reused the mansion’s custom cast-brass registers to preserve historic features. The HVAC upgrade incorporated direct digital controls and additional electrical service panels at three locations.
Completed in 1928, the 46,000-square-foot Tudor Revival mansion is also known as the Doheny Mansion. Its historic architecture and formal gardens make preservation an essential part of any building-system intervention.
